fossil fuels forever, 1989

Exxon Valdez oil tanker disaster spills 11 million gallons in Prince William Sound Alaska in 1989. TV footage of struggling birds was actually shot in the Persian Gulf because the cormorant lives in both areas and is a very active and aggressive bird when in distress. I was interested in how animals are so often represented in the context of cruelty, how they are a more sympathetic stand-in for human suffering.
